Maria Samora (Taos)

About the Artist

Maria has become one of the most sought-after jewelers in a very short time. In fact, she is the youngest artist ever featured on the poster for the Santa Fe Indian Market (in 2009). Growing up and still living in Taos, Maria says that life there is “simple and beautiful and I believe that my jewelry is a personal expression of this simplicity.” Her goal is to create pieces that accentuate the body and capture the movement of the human form, enhancing one’s personal beauty and grace. Her use of subtle textures, various patinas, and mixed metals create contrast and dimension. Hand-selected stones add clean elegance. But most important to her is that it’s comfortable and natural-feeling when worn. She wears and tests each piece herself to make sure that her designs feel good on the body.
