Dolores Purdy (Caddo)
About the Artist
After a career outside the art world, Dolores finally pursued her dream in the late 1990’s. She creates wonderful, whimsical ledger art, often depicting women and their adventures. She utilizes historic ledger paper and manuscripts, adding bright-colored pencil work and watercolors to create her images and depict movement. She also makes gourd masks, paying respect to the mound-builder culture. “Each gourd has its own personality and spirit, which is revealed as I work on it,” she says.
