Dolores Purdy (Caddo)

About the Artist

Dolores, a trained watercolorist, is a well accomplished Ledger artist who has worked in this discipline for over a decade and is a recognized expert in the field. She frequently lectures on Ledger art and recently spoke at the Tweed Museum - UMN, Duluth, MN, and Haffenreffer Museum – Brown University, Providence, RI. Dolores’ work is known for its rich colors, humor and whimsy, bringing a feminine touch to Ledger art, historically a traditional male art form. A resident of Northern New Mexico, she has won numerous awards and has been interviewed on this subject in many publications including Native Peoples and Indian Country Today. Dolores is prominently featured in the book Women and Ledger Art, by Dr. Richard Pearce, University of Arizona Press.
