Spencer Nutima (Hopi)
About the Artist
The eldest of six children, Spencer spent his early childhood in Flagstaff, often visiting relatives at the different Hopi villages. His grandfathers and uncles were well-known Hopi artists and Spencer would observe his elders and their creative process. He continues to learn from his everyday experiences and tries to share that learning in his art. Spencer creates old-style, carved wooden figures, representing the spirit of the animals, characters, and aspects of nature.
