Franklin Peters (Acoma)
About the Artist
Franklin Peters was born into the Sky Clan and Acoma Pueblo. He started making pottery at the age of 12, learning from his mother, Ella Vallo, and her sister, Phyllis Juanico. The only brother in a family of five sisters, his passion is in continuing his family's pottery traditions.
In 2011, he received the Rollin and Ella Mary King fellowship at the School of Advanced Research/Indian Arts Research Center. The fellowship helped him to revive historical pottery designs of old Acoma and make them come alive in his pottery.
