Pahponee (Kickapoo/Potawatomi)

About the Artist

Pahponee’s pottery all stemmed from an encounter she had with a sacred white buffalo years ago. After that meeting, she kept dreaming of a white buffalo pottery vessel and decided that she had to learn how to make it a reality. She learned the traditional pottery methods of her Woodlands culture, as well as contemporary pottery techniques, the combination of which gives her pottery its very distinctive look. Her art continues to be inspired by her dreams and personal experiences as expressed in her clean lines and graceful forms. “When I work on my pottery, it’s as if the rest of the world falls away.”
